Crystal Oscillator Question & Answers

September 12, 2022 By WatElectronics

This article lists 30 crystal oscillator MCQs for engineering students. All the crystal oscillator Questions & Answers given below include a hint and a link wherever possible to the relevant topic. This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of the crystal oscillator.

An oscillator is a device designed for generating electric signals without excitation from external force. The wave generated from these oscillators might either be continuous, discontinuous, or repeated. They are classified as linear and nonlinear oscillators.

Linear oscillators such as Phase shift oscillator, multi-vibrator, Crystal oscillators, etc generate periodic forms of signal output. A crystal oscillator is an electronic circuit designed to generate electric-based signals whenever the crystal within the oscillator vibrates.

This crystal operator works on the principle of inverse piezoelectric effect. A basic crystal oscillator comprises of a quartz crystal, and 2 conducting wires. The operating frequency of the crystal oscillator is 32KHz to 200MHz.

A crystal oscillator has 2 frequencies parallel and serial frequencies.  The different types of quartz crystals available include ATCXO, CDXO, DTCXO, TCXO, VCXO, etc. The application of crystal oscillators includes clocks, radios, computers, microcontrollers, space applications, etc.
