June 8, 2022 By WatElectronics

This article lists 50 Colpitts Oscillator MCQs for engineering students. All the Colpitts Oscillator Questions & Answers given below include a hint and a link wherever possible to the relevant topic. This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of Colpitts Oscillator.

A Colpitts oscillator is the reverse of the Hartley oscillator where all the inductors and capacitors are placed in one tank circuit. Resistors in the Colpitts oscillator provide bias in the circuit.

Capacitors are placed in a circuit to block some D.C and to allow only A.C current outside the supply source. The tank circuit is built with two capacitances that have been placed beyond one common inductor circuit.

Phase shift produced when capacitances are connected in series are 1800 and when connected in parallel produces phase shift 00 and 3600. The resonant frequency value of the Colpitts oscillator is given as 1/2LCT.

Advantages of Colpitts oscillator are high-frequency stability, very simple to design, less component requirement, the amplitude remains constant over the fixed frequency range, and it can bear both low and high temperatures.

Applications of Colpitts oscillator are used in radio frequency oscillators, radio receivers, commercial purposes, wireless communications, and also in sine wave generators.
