A small loop antenna is also a magnetic loop antenna designed with a loop circumference of 1/10 lambda value. These antennas are used only as receivers. A Halo-type antenna exhibits the property between small and large loop antenna characteristics.

The working of Halo type antenna is similar to a small loop antenna but variate in terms of radiation resistance. The advantages of a loop antenna are size is compact and max directivity, the disadvantages of the loop antenna are very high Q value and improper impedance matching.

The applications of loop antennas include AM receivers, UHF transmitters, RFID devices, and aircraft.
