Wireless communications are of two types based on distance they are short-range and long-range communications. The WIFI, Bluetooth, ZigBee, IrDA, etc are examples of short-range wireless communications, and the radio, mobile phones, satellite communications, etc are examples of long-range communication. 

The wireless connectivity happens in two ways: WIFI and WIMAX which eliminates the need to connect the device to a wire. The freedom from wires, mobility, global connectivity, ease of use, reduced cost, flexibility & scalability are the benefits of wireless communication.  

The WIFI wireless communication technology has a range of 100 yards, it is insecure, and it has a throughput of 10-12 Mbps. The throughput means the data that is traveling can get collided with any other data or due to some interference it gets an error, so in that case, the bandwidth will be wasted. When bandwidth is wasted then effectivity the time will be lost and communication channels will lose. 

The WiMAX is nothing but a collection of wireless protocols that were defined by IEEE 802.16. The WiMAX base station and WIMAX subscriber unit are the main components of WiMAX. The WiMAX has broadband wireless access, it has a throughput of 72Mbps, a range of 6 miles, and multilevel encryption is available in this wireless technology.
