This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of the oscilloscope.

The oscilloscopes come in different shapes, sizes, configurations, and capabilities. The key to any oscilloscope system is its ability to accurately reconstruct a waveform, an oscilloscope is like a camera, it captures signal images that we can interpret.

The oscilloscopes perform basic measurements such as amplitude, time, frequency, and phase between signals. The DSO, MSO, DPO, and MDO are the types of oscilloscopes. The DSO and DPO both are types of digital oscilloscopes and MSO and MDO are the types of mixed-signal oscilloscopes.

The digital storage oscilloscope comes in two types they are processing type and non-processing type. The processing type digit storage oscilloscope includes built-in computing power and the advantage is that all the data is already in digital form.

The processing type digital storage oscilloscope can process simple functions like RMS, area, average, etc, and compute complex functions such as fast Fourier transform spectrum of the signal as well as spectrum analysis.

Mesh storage and phosphor storage are the techniques used in oscilloscope CRTs. The mesh storage has a storage target and a phosphor display target. The phosphor storage oscilloscope technique uses a thin layer of phosphor to serve both as the storage and the display element.
