Smartphones became one of the most essential gadgets to lead a balanced life in urban society. One of the advanced features of the smartphone is the speech recognition technology, through speech recognition we can make calls and access the apps on smartphones.

When we ask the smartphone to call the specific contact the sound vibrations are created in the air which receives in the analog signal, smartphones cannot understand the analog signal, hence this analog signal must be converted into a discrete-time signal and this can be done by the help of analog to digital converter.

The discrete variables are obtained by counting and represented by isolated points, whereas the continuous variables are obtained by measuring and represented by connected points. The number of pages in a book is an example for discrete and the length of a film is an example for continuous data.

The discrete-time signal is a digital representation of a continuous-time signal, the discrete-time signals are used for the processing of digital signals whereas the continuous-time signals are not useful for the processing of digital signals. The discrete-time variables are denoted by a letter n and the continuous-time variables are denoted by a letter t.
