An IEEE 802.11 is also known as Wireless Fidelity or Wi-Fi. The IEEE 802.11 standard was designed to use in limited geographical areas like homes, office buildings, or on campuses. The IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi is mainly for wireless LAN and in addition to this, 802.11 supports two additional features they are power management and security mechanism.

The IEEE 802.11 uses 5GHHz radio frequencies even it can work at 2.4 GHz radio frequencies. The access method of WI-FI is CSMA/CA which is carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance.

The Wi-Fi works in two modes one is infrastructure mode and another one is the ad-hoc mode, the infrastructure mode has a centralized administration whereas the ad-hoc mode is decentralized.
