This article lists 100 Schottky Diode MCQs for engineering students. All the Schottky Diode Questions & Answers given below include a hint and a link wherever possible to the relevant topic. This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up their fundamentals on Schottky Diode.

A diode is an electronic component designed with 2 terminals anode and cathode. Where anode is the positive terminal and cathode is the negative terminal. The anode terminal is represented with positive polarity and the cathode terminal is represented with negative polarity. Depending upon the polarity connection of this anode to the device it defines whether the diode is forward biased or reverse biased.

These diodes are classified into different types based on their operations namely Zenor diode, Schottky diode, PN diode, and more. A Schottky diode discovered by Walter H Schottky is a semiconductor class of diode also named as hot carrier diode.

This diode is designed with 2 terminals anode (metal) and cathode (semiconductor) where a metal-semiconductor separates metal and semiconductor within the diode a creates a barrier between them. It has a forward voltage of 150 to 450mV and acts similar to a normal PN junction diode. This diode varies from pn diode in terms of reverse recovery time. Where a pn junction diode has several microseconds to less than 100 ns. Whereas a Schottky diode switched faster.

This diode overcomes the limitation of charge storage issue observed in the PN diode. A potential barrier is created between semiconductors and metal. They benefit in terms of low turn-on voltage, fast recovery time, and low junction capacitance. But lack in terms of cost, higher reverse-biased current, and high heat dissipation. They are deployed in wireless rectifiers, metal rectifiers, and metal detectors.
