The PMMC instrument and dynamometer are two types of moving coil instruments. The PMMC is one of the moving coil instruments used only for DC. The dynamometer is also one of the moving coil instruments but this instrument is used on either ac or dc. 

The instruments are of two types they are absolute instruments and secondary instruments. The recording, indicating, and integration are the types of secondary instruments. The wattmeter and ampere-hour meters are examples of the secondary instruments,s, and the tangent, the galvanometer is an example of an absolute instrument. 

The damping in permanent magnet moving coil instruments is provided by eddy current damping, the PMMC instruments are one type of spring-controlled instruments and the instruments are delicate, accurate, and sensitive. 

The permanent magnet moving coil instruments work on the DC motor principle, whereas the moving iron instruments work on the principle of magnetism. The deflection torque in PMMC instruments is proportional to the square of the current and the controlling torque is proportional to the angle of deflection.
