This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams or interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on their fundamentals on Digital Storage Oscilloscope.

DSO represents Digital Storage Oscilloscope. DS Oscilloscope stores data in digital format. Frequency measurement in digital storage oscilloscopes depends on two factors: the sampling rate of the scope and the nature of the converter. Digital Storage Oscilloscopes are bright and displayed in seconds.

Block diagram of Digital Storage Oscilloscope consists of the digitizer, amplifier, memory, analyzer circuit, waveform reconstruction, CRT, Horizontal amplifier, Timebase circuit, trigger, and clock circuit.

An amplifier is used for amplifying the input signal, after amplification signal is passed through a digitizer which digitizes and stores the digitized signal in memory. Later conversion of digital signal to an analog signal, the signal is passed through vertical plates of CRT Tubes.

The waveform on the CRT display displays data in terms of input signal and time. A/D converter is used for conversion from analog to digital signal where resolution also depends on it. The sampling theorem is used for sampling signals.

DSO operates in three modes: Roll type mode, store mode, and hold or save mode. Two types of waveform reconstruction take place: Linear and Sinusoidal Interpolation. Applications of Digital Storage Oscilloscope are in the Medical field, Television, and research fields.

The disadvantages of  Digital Storage Oscilloscopes are complex and high cost. Speed and bandwidth are high which are more advantageous in DSO.
