In amplitude modulation, the amplitude of the carrier signal changes with respect to modulating signal. The bandwidth of the amplitude modulation signal is two times the frequency of modulating signal. The double sideband suppressed carrier, single sideband suppressed carrier, VSB, and conventional amplitude modulation are the types of amplitude modulation.

In conventional amplitude modulation, the amplitude signal contains carrier and two sidebands, in double sideband, suppressed carrier the carrier is removed (only sidebands are present), in single sideband suppressed carrier only one sideband is present.

The amplitude modulation is categorized into four types they are DSB-SC, SSB-SC, VSB, and conventional AM. It is a type of carrier modulation used in both digital & analog communication, telemetry, etc. The amplitude modulation is simple to implement and they are economical and inexpensive.

Amplitude modulation is a type of carrier modulation used in TV pictures, radio broadcasting facsimile transmission, etc. The bandwidth of amplitude modulation is 10KHz. The overmodulation occurs when the modulating signal voltage is greater than the carrier voltage. The frequency range of amplitude modulation is between 540-1600Hz.
