Working
A solid-state relay works on a different principle as compared to EMR relays. So these relays are simply made up of semiconductors that work by separating a low-voltage circuit from a high-voltage circuit using optocouplers. Whenever the control input is provided to the SSR relay, the inside LED will light up and generate a light signal that is obtained by a photosensitive semiconductor. After that, it changes the energy from light into electrical & switches the circuit. So this type of relay works at higher speed with less power consumption.

G3MB-202P SSR Driver Circuit for Microcontroller

This circuit uses a photocoupler for isolating input as well as output signals & also switching elements like; triac, thyristor, transistor & diode. The main feature of this circuit is that it does not utilize switching contacts, thus there are no physical wear & tear issues.
The required components to make this circuit mainly include G3MB-202P SSR, two 1N4007 diodes, a 5.6V Zener diode, a 2N2222 transistor, etc. Connect the circuit as per the diagram shown below.

G3MB-202P Solid State Relay Driver Circuit
Working
This circuit is powered with a 5V DC supply and Transistor as well as associated electronic components will make this circuit possible to allow DC control signal from MCUs. Here, the transistor’s collector terminal is simply connected to the input of the relay to sink current from the +ve rail whereas its emitter terminal is directly connected to the GND terminal. Thus, the R3 resistor in the circuit limits the current supply of LED1. For security purposes, a 2A fuse is included. Likewise, D1 & ZD1 diodes will protect the remaining circuit.
Thus, the working of this circuit is, that whenever the input of MCU is high, then 5V and SSR1 get triggered. The load which is connected across the CON3 connector gets turned on. Similarly, when the input of MCU is low, then 0V and SSR1 get turned off & the connected load gets deactivated.
Testing
Once the circuit connections are made, the following steps need to be followed to test the circuit.
- Apply 5Volts DC to power input across CON1.
- Place the digital multimeter into the buzzer or continuity mode & connect the multimeter’s test probes across the switch output of CON3.
- Press on the S1 test switch to obtain sound on the digital multimeter. So if the sound is not listened to; then the circuit will not work.
- Connect AC load toward CON3 so that load can be easily controlled by simply controlling the input of a signal from at CON2 the MCU.
