This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams and interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of the Packet Switching.

The problems of circuit switching are addressed in the packet switching. The problems of circuit switching are they are designed for voice service, resources are dedicated to particular calls, and for data transmission much of the time the connection is idle, and the data rate is fixed.

The techniques which follow the packet switching to transfer the data from source to destination is first a station breaks a long message into packets and those packets are sent out to the network sequentially one after the other, after that the network handles the stream of packets to deliver at the destination.

The datagram and virtual circuit are the two types of approaches used to deliver the packets from source to destination. In packet switching, there will not be a physical path between source and destination.

The packets in a packet switching travel independently and the charging in packet switching are packet-based. The variable latency in packet switching is dependent on both distance and network equipment load. In datagram type packet switching the route is established for each packet and in the virtual circuit type packet switching the route is established for the entire conversation.
